Honda Astrea 800
The Astrea 800 was the first to pioneer Honda's modern underbone motorcycles. It's understandable if many people aren't familiar with it, as the Honda Astrea 800 had a relatively low population in Indonesia. Its production period was also short, lasting only three years (1983-1986) before being replaced by the Astrea Star.
Launched in 1983, the Honda Astrea 800 can be considered the pioneer of modern underbones, featuring several innovations that weren't available in earlier Honda underbone models. These included a key switch integrated with the handlebar lock, fuel gauge, oil indicator, electric starter, and a 12-volt CDI ignition, eliminating the need for setting the points. By the way, the engine of the Astrea 800 was incredibly smooth, even when compared to modern Honda underbones.
The design was unique as well, with a relatively large body, a small windshield at the front, and square-shaped front and rear lights.
The engine still relied on Honda’s C-Series, known for its durability and fuel efficiency. With a displacement of 86cc, this engine produced a maximum power of 6.8 hp at 8500 rpm and a maximum torque of 6.7 Nm. The transmission was still a 3-speed, but it had already adopted a rotary system.
